The visit was part of his wider engagement within the state ahead of the upcoming valedictory session in honor of his late father, Chief (Hon.) Sir Sylvester Anyarue Chukwuma Ezeokenwa, KSJI.
Barr. Ezeokenwa commenced his day at the Onitsha South LGA Secretariat in Woliwo, where he interacted with APGA stakeholders and local leaders before proceeding to monitor the ongoing voter registration exercise. His tour took him to several wards and centers where he assessed the process and encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to either register afresh or update their voter details.
The National Chairman visited key CVR centers including St. Monica's Anglican Church in Woliwo (Fegge Ward 7), Ugborimili Primary School (Bridge Head Ward 2), Zik’s Avenue Primary School (Fegge Ward 4), Metu Memorial Secondary School (Odoakpu Ward 7), and the Odoakpu Ward 4 CVR center. At each stop, he was warmly received by both residents and INEC officials who were visibly engaged with the high turnout of prospective voters.
During his visit, Barr. Ezeokenwa interacted with enthusiastic residents, many of whom expressed their readiness to fully participate in the forthcoming elections. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials for their professionalism, efficiency, and patience in handling the large crowds. He praised their commitment to upholding the integrity of the democratic process through a transparent voter registration exercise.
In his remarks to the press, Barr. Ezeokenwa expressed satisfaction with the massive turnout of residents and urged more people to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise. He emphasized that voter registration is a fundamental civic responsibility and a necessary step towards electing credible leaders who can deliver good governance.
“The energy and passion I witnessed today are clear indicators that our democracy is thriving. I commend the INEC officials for maintaining high standards of service and applaud the people of Onitsha for turning out in such impressive numbers. This is how democracy should work,” Ezeokenwa stated.
The APGA National Chairman further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to grassroots mobilization, noting that APGA remains steadfast in promoting political participation at all levels. He stated that the future of Nigeria’s democracy rests on the shoulders of an active and informed electorate, and APGA would continue to champion causes that empower the people.
Barr. Ezeokenwa also encouraged community leaders and youth organizations to support the voter registration drive within their neighborhoods, stressing that political participation begins with ensuring one’s voice is registered through the ballot. He highlighted that every Permanent Voter Card (PVC) represents power, and urged citizens not to waste the opportunity to shape the future of their communities.
The APGA Chairman’s visit has been widely praised as a demonstration of leadership by example, reaffirming the party’s philosophy of inclusiveness and the importance of grassroots engagement in the democratic process.
